Bobby Smith: Makin’ It Through the Storm

The WYATT O’BRIAN EVANS Show–on the progressive PapichuloRADIO.com—makes its Righteous and Real Return on Sunday, July 26th @ 9 PM ET/6 PM PT!

The eppy is all about a serious and critical issue I’m extremely passionate about:  Intimate Partner Violence and Abuse (IPV/A), the term used for domestic violence/abuse within the LGBTQ Community.   On Sunday night, I’ll give you an encapsulated version of the IPV/A seminars I conduct across the country.

And to put a human face on this demoralizing, despicable—and potentially life-threatening behavior, The WYATT O’BRIAN EVANS Show welcomes Mr. Bobby Smith, an activist who’s worked in the arenas of HIV/AIDS advocacy and support for more than 20 years.

     And, he’s an IPV/A Survivor.

Bobby will open up and have a candid discussion about his harrowing and life-changing experiences with IPV/A.  And as you’ll see, he’s “made it thru the storm!”  And, he’s done so quite well.

This installment of The WYATT O’BRIAN EVANS Show is one you simply don’t wanna miss!  If you or someone you know is experiencing IPV/A, call: the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) or the Gay Men’s Domestic Violence Project Hotline (1-800-832-1901).

BRUHS Book Reading Uplifts His Spirit

Yippee! The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library’s Got Me!

On Monday, August 4, beginning at 6 p.m., spend a very special evening with Yours Truly! As part of BRUHS (Book Reading Uplifts His Spirit), an innovative program sponsored by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library in D.C., I’ll perform selected readings from my new novel, Nothing Can Tear Us Apart—RAGE!

Since Intimate Partner Violence and Abuse (IPV/A) is the overarching theme of RAGE!, I’ll conduct a “mini-seminar” on this demeaning and potentially life-threatening behavior. Among other things, I’ll define and explain this behavior, describe the warning signs—and discuss how you can make your “Great Escape.” Unfortunately, IPV/A is stigmatized and underreported in the LGBTQ Community.

I’m jazzed—and so proud—that the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library has selected me for this particular honor! I plan on making this very special evening substantive, entertaining….and impactful.

The MLK Jr. Library is located at 901 G Street, N.W., with the event to be held in Auditorium A-5. The event is free and open to the public. I’ll being signing copies of RAGE!

Whats Up “Inside Out?”

I wanna thank “Inside Out” and its absolutely MAH-VA-LOUS host, Sheila Alexander-Reid! Earlier this week, I was the special guest for this insanely popular weekly radio show, which airs on WPFW 89.3FM in Washington, D.C. You can also catch Inside Out on line at WPFWFM.ORG.

Inside Out is D.C.’s only LGBT FM radio show. According to Reid, the program “tackles the tough subjects other shows deem too taboo to discuss.”

Sheila and I chatted about a variety of topics, including the annual OutWrite Book Festival, sponsored by the DC Center for the LGBT Community, to be held in Washington from August 1-3, and the Center Black LGBT Writers’ Forum–of which I’m Moderator. This Forum, to be held on Saturday, August 2, 1 p.m., is part of OutWrite.

I also read an excerpt from my new novel, Nothing Can Tear Us Apart—RAGE! You can listen to the audio for the entire “Inside Out” interview below:
